Music Curriculum

Music at Long Stratton High School has a focus on providing opportunities in the curriculum for all students to become musicians and develop a love of music. Offering a broad and aspirational curriculum, the intent is to expose students to a diverse range of musical genres through a variety of performing, singing, composing and listening activities. All students are given the opportunity to develop their skills on a variety of orchestral and popular music instruments, forming a basis of knowledge and skills which should enable student to return to performing at any point later on in life.

Extra-curricular activities are the heart of the Music and Drama department. We offer a lunch time club every day students can take part in a variety of activities and performances throughout the year. Extra-curricular clubs include activities such as Choir, School Orchestra, Harmony Group, Musical Theatre Club and Ukulele Club. With open access to practice rooms every break and lunch time, students enjoy the freedom to create their own ensembles/bands and perform music independently.

Each year there are a number of opportunities to perform. Christmas is usually a busy time with the Christmas Concert and Carols on Tour. During the spring and summer there are often a number of opportunities to perform in school-based concerts and at external venues such as the Royal Norfolk Show.

The school shows are a really important part of the each year for the department. Recently, we performed Percy Jackson and the Lighting Thief. Other shows done in recent years include Back to the 80’s, Little Shop of Horrors, Wizard of Oz, Oliver and Bugsy Malone.
