Wellbeing and Mental Health Support

At Long Stratton High School, we are proud of the mental health support we provide. On average, three young people in every classroom may be experiencing a mental health issue. That’s why we take a proactive approach to promoting wellbeing across the school.

A whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing involves the entire school community working together to create and sustain strategies that support the wellbeing of pupils and staff. This approach relies on collaboration among senior leaders, teachers, staff members, parents, carers, and the wider community. Mental health and wellbeing become deeply embedded in the school's culture, ethos, and daily practices.

If you feel that yourself or someone else could benefit from some wellbeing support, please complete this form below. This referral will be sent directly to the Wellbeing Officer and will be given a triage appointment within two weeks during term time. At this appointment, we’ll provide information about if and when support will begin. Please note that there may be a waiting list.

What We Do at Long Stratton High School

  • Whole School Approach: We encourage all students to consider their mental wellbeing alongside their physical wellbeing. Everyone has mental health, sometimes good, sometimes bad or often it is a mixture of both, and we believe it’s important to talk about both.
  • Wellbeing support officers: We are extremely lucky to have two well-being officers within the school. Having dedicated wellbeing officers within school provides vital support for the mental health and emotional wellbeing of students. This role ensures there is a consistent, approachable point of contact for anyone experiencing difficulties, while also promoting a culture of openness and support. The wellbeing officer can provide early intervention strategies, offer one-to-one support, signpost to external services, and help develop whole-school initiatives that foster a positive and inclusive environment. Their presence reinforces the message that mental health matters and that help is always available.

Curriculum Integration: We regularly discuss mental health during assemblies, form times and PSHE lessons, helping to reduce stigma and promote awareness, as well as signposting students to where they can go to receive support.

Collaboration and Best Practice: At our school, we work closely with a wide range of external agencies, charities, and specialist and supportive services to enhance the wellbeing support available to our pupils. These connections provide access to expert guidance, tailored interventions, and valuable resources that strengthen our in-school provision. Through these partnerships, we ensure our approach is holistic, inclusive, and responsive to the evolving needs of our school community. In addition, working alongside external professionals, enables us to access the latest training and best practices, enabling us to deliver high-quality support and stay up to date with current developments in mental health and wellbeing
